ACU

The Asian Cultural Union (ACU), or formerly Asian Awareness Weekend (AAW), hosts a weekend long conference designed to expose the local community of both Troy and RPI to culture and diversity. It began as a way to unite all the Asian clubs on campus to come together and share their cultures in one weekend. ACU works towards teaching students, faculty, and residents of Troy , NY and RPI the different lifestyles, histories and languages of the many Asian cultures. To this end the ACU committee was formed to coordinate and accomplish these goals. The committee works to unify the Asian organizations throughout RPI, as well as the non-Asian groups, so that all cultures may be represented and all previous enmities can be wiped clean. Bringing together a diverse group of individuals at RPI is a difficult task in itself, but crossing the borders of ethnicity and culture proves to be an even larger challenge. As a group, we are making progress towards crossing those boundaries. The committee is composed of representatives from all organizations that desire to take part in the planning and execution of ACU. The work of the Asian Cultural Union illustrates that we can work together to bring to RPI a conference that facilitates the discussion of culture, heritage and diversity in a way that promotes a positive, social, and educational atmosphere.
